Snapshot of training in Indian Institute of Science (IISc)

Ms. Nyein Nyein Aye, 1st year student of Ph.D. course (Dept. of Architecture and Civil Engineering),        Mr.Futa Shimazu, 3rd year student of undergraduate course (Dept of Mechanical Engineering), and Mr.Taketeru Yoshii, 3rd year student of undergraduate course (Dept of Mechanical Engineering) participated in Entrepreneurship Educational Program at Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, from March 19th to 24th, 2018. It was not a commercial-based seminar or workshop for a large number of usual students, but a special seminar for only the students of our university without any charge. It was held with the efforts of Prof. MH Bala Subrahmanya of the former Department Chairman and Prof. Parthasarathy Ramachandran, the present Chairman. The Indian Institute of Science is only one school in Bangalore, compared to multiple schools of the famous Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), It is a research-oriented university with a higher ratio of Ph.D. students than the ratios of undergraduate and master students different from IIT as the top school of science and engineering except medical school. In addition, the Dept. of Management Studies has an older history than any Indian Institutes of Management as business schools. The students stayed at the guest house (Hoysala House) on the campus this time.

March 24 (Saturday)

Pilgrimage visit to the Hindu temple                               Commemorative photo in front of Karmataka

                                                                                                Parliament Building

On Saturday the last day of out stay, the schedule was at excursion, including visit to the nearby Hindu temple, the walk in the park, commemorative photo taking in front of the Parliament House, and purchasing souvenirs at the shopping mall, etc. We were able to watch the daily life and culture of the general people outside campus with a fence. Later of that, we were invited to a dinner hosted by Prof. MH Bala Subrahmanya’s family. We made a comprehensive discussion on the general understanding of people, funds and information exchange, including the role of IISc playing in Bangalore’s start-up ecosystem, and the human network of supporters such as surrounding venture capitalists and accessors. Then, we promised to deepen our ties between mutual universities in the future. After that, we got a taxi arrangement to the airport.

In this program we were deeply grateful for their supports as the lecturer service, guest house, meal, domestic travel expenses etc without any charge. Now, Japanese universities are changing in line with the trend of Westernization, but we felt the commonality of cultural exchange in Asia as unexpected correspondence at Western universities.
